Abstract EN

French Revolution in 1789 was not just an effective event in the history of France only, but it exceeded that limit to include the European continent as a whole.

As a reaction to that revolution, the positions of European countries in general varied and Russia in particular, Russia split in attitudes towards the revolution between supporters and opponents.

From the popular side, the revolution put an end to tyranny and repression in France.

Yet, the Russian government was an extreme opponent to it, but later the Emperor Paul I became a friend of Napoleon.

After that in time Alexander, who ruled Russia as a successor, followed a peaceful policy that unfortunately did not last long.
