Verbal succession is one of the concepts to be selected for terminological use, thought it did not receive the degree of propagation or publicity among researchers.

The term is very rarely used not only in the field of rhetoric, but also in linguistic studies in general, and the concept is almost unknown to many scholars.

What is more astonishing is that this term is used by Abdul Qahir Al-Jarjani (471 AH or 474 AH) – who is one of the pillars and founders of rhetoric – in his book "The Secrets of Rhetoric", referring to the rhetorical processes where the meaning of words is not understood directly, but indirectly through inferences via meanings of other words.

These other words form terms that can be considered as the origin of other successive words.

In other words, the words are created from meanings of other original words and replaced them.
