In her article “Criticism of the Orientalist Concept of Otherness”, the Syrian researcher Samar George Al-Dayub treats the problem of the self and the civilized other which occupies a central arena in the turbulent relationship between the East and West, especially between the Islamic World and the cultural and ideological authority of the West.

In this essay, Al-Dayub attempts to approach the problem within the concept of otherness which has dominated the Western Orientalist mind since the Crusades up until the era of Post-Modernism.

In this context, Al-Dayub presents a criticism of Western historical knowledge of Arabs and Islam- both of which differ from Western civilization that is based on predominance and tyranny
