Abstract EN

This study aims to set a plan to establish an electronic union- catalogue for the Sudanese university libraries to assist users to easily access the sources and materials they need at libraries.

It lays the foundations of constructing a standardized e-catalogue for all Sudanese university libraries.

It encourages libraries to develop bibliographic control systems, and directs attention to the importance of using unified applications and cooperating to translate the newest ones.

The researcher has applied the descriptive analytical method to study the current status of the e-catalogues at the Sudanese University libraries , in addition to the documentary method , lased no the nature of the research problem , to consult the relevant source material .

The study also used the deductive research method in planning the proposed e-union catalogue.

Major findings of the study indicate that the implementation of the proposed plan requires employing highly qualified librarians.

Results also show that such a plan needs a high budget and training sessions for librarians working at the standardized e-catalogue sections and e-catalogue users.

Bibliographic control systems and its instruments are basic factors to the success of the proposed plan.

Major recommendations of the study include: the need to employ qualified librarians, holding training sessions, and paying much attention to the development of bibliographic control systems.

It is also necessary to standardize the use, and cooperate to translate the most up-to-date versions, in order to enable constructing standardized e-catalogues among universities based on unified scientific grounds
