Abstract EN

This study aims to identify the role of Damascus University in achieving the components of the knowledge society, as well as to know the difference between the views of faculty members at the University of Damascus about the role of the university in achieving some of the elements of a knowledge society.

The components explored in this study are freedom of thought and expression, knowledge sharing, and focus on knowledge, in terms of the study variables (gender, academic rank and type of college).

The study sample consisted of (120) of the faculty members, males and females, representing about (20.48 %) of the total faculty members at the selected colleges.

The tool of the study was a 18 item questionnaire combining the three elements.

Results of the study revealed that there are no statistically significant differences at (x < 0.05) between the responses of the faculty members about the role of the University of Damascus in achieving the elements of the knowledge society, in terms of the study variables (gender, academic rank and college).

The results also showed the failure of the University of Damascus to fulfil the required roles in order to achieve the components of the knowledge society under study, where the total averages of the three dimensions were low.
