Abstract EN

This paper deals with the image of Hunain ibn Ishaq al-lbadi (194-260 | 808- 873) as depicted in the most important writings of German Orientalism.

The image of Hunain will be displayed and analyzed in the context of the scientific relations that prevailed between the Islamic East and the Christian West in the Middle Ages and Renaissance.

German writings started to emerge in the second half of the 19th century in the context of academic studies related to the "History of science".

In those writings Hunain Ibn Ishaq dominated because of his leading role in translating most of the Greek medical heritage into Arabic and Syriac, a heritage which was then translated from Arabic into Latin to mark the beginning of the European Renaissance.

In addition, this search shows the efforts of German Orientalism in highlighting the significance of what was known back then as the phenomen- on of "Arabic science", and its impact on contemporary western civilization.
