Abstract EN

The importance of irony in this study stems from the fact that it can be described as a patterning value, a logical strategy, and a rhetorical stylistic technique.

By using irony, one can deconstruct the marginal spaces in the poetic text.

Consequently, the present study is divided into two basic parts: first, the theoretical part that aims at highlighting irony as a very important and effective concept in studies of literary criticism, especially the Western ones, that depend mainly on the writing of the critic D.C.

Within this theoretical frame, the audience can notice the effective connections that irony can establish with the artistic, philosophical, and ideological concepts, in addition to the post colonial discourse.

Second, the practical part takes Qurait Bin Unaif's Nouniah as a model to expose the implied patterns of irony in the structure of this text.

A careful analysis of the text exposes the following ironies: the irony of the event, the easily permitted margin and the critical status, the ironies of disappointment and hope or the collapse of tension, and the ironies of negotiation and celebration.
