Some developments may occur to the State territory which leads to its widening or shrinking, and this is usually done by the state’s abandoning of part of its territory to be joined for another country, or to be independent constituting a stand-alone state, or to combine two or more for making up a federal state.

From all of these changes there will be legal results referring to the authority change which will exercise sovereignty over a given territory.

Technically, the Scholars of the International Law called these results "The International Inheritance" or "The International Succession".
