Abstract EN

Since the 11th century AD the visit of the holy places (Mecca and Medina) is becoming more and more difficult for the Muslims of the Muslim West because of the insecurity that reigned along the pilgrimage routes; Especially in North Africa and the Mediterranean.

Many voices are raised to ask the help and advice of the jurisconsults by proposing to replace the pilgrimage by participation in the holy war (jihad).

The replies of the Ulema were varied and sometimes opposed.

Some people; And to resolve their internal conflict and get rid of the feeling of guilt, have opted to write or make write letters addressed to Mecca an/or to the tomb of the prophet, and among them find great personalities such as the princes of granada, The learned Kadi Iyyad of Ceuta and the learned vizier Ibn lkhatib of Granada.
