Abstract EN

This study focuses upon the Syrian, Arab, and international tendencies of the Husni Az-zaaim’s putsch in Syria on 30th of March 1949.

This putsch was considered a new phenomenon in the Arab political life.

It was the first successful one in the Arab world and became an example of several attempts in it.

It started a series of putsches in Syria between 1949-1954.

First, this study discuses the direct and indirect causes of the putsch, its events and the position of the people and the political powers towards it.

Second it describes the governmental, parliamentary, and constitutional aspects during the Zaaim’s regime.

Moreover it shows his internal policy, measures against the political opposition, and the Syrian media.

Third, it deals with the Zaaim’s policy towards the Arab and foreign countries.

Finally it treats the end of the Zaaim’s regime.
