This paper attempt to cast light onthe importance ofOld Dongola as an administrative andpoliticalcenterduringthe Medieval Sudan.

Old Dongolawas the capitalof Makuria Kingdom and continuity as anurban centerinthe early Islamicperiodsuntil historical times.

This study aimsat introducing the various aspectsof thisurban center politically and culturally, andhighlights themost importantfeatures of thissite.

The study stressesthe importance of the area especially in themedieval period through the archaeological andhistorical evidence.
