Abstract EN

Investment in education yields various kinds of returns either for individuals or for the society as a whole.

In fact, economists of education distinguish between monetary and nonmonetary returns.

The former refers to rising wages and spurring economic growth while the latter refers to improving human wellbeing such as reducing fertility rates, infant mortality and crime rates.

Furthermore, education contributes to strengthening social capital and political behaviors and so on.

The purpose of this paper is to shed light on the economic role of education which is the sum of these returns to investing in education.
