تقييم كفاءة الصناعة التحويلية في السودان في دعم الاقتصاد القومي خلال الفترة (2000-2010 م)‎

Abstract EN

This study aims at evaluating and assessing the contribution of manufacturing industry in supporting the national economy during the period(2000-2010) through industrial exports, Gross Domestic Product(G.D.P), ratio of labor involved ,and the contribution in supporting the commercial balance and the balance of payments.

The study shows that the contribution of manufacturing industries in industrial exports was very weak (0.3 – 0.5%) of the total exports, mainly from sugar & petroleum (refineries) industries.

Also manufacturing industry contributed by 9.45% in the G.D.P.

compared to other economic sectors such as agriculture (31.1%).

The study also reveals that the contribution of manufacturing industry in labor force was very weak represented by 1.7% of the total labor force in the Sudan and 28% of industrial firms are not working.

Regarding the trade balance, manufacturing industries, negatively contributed and also the balance of payments which lead the state to foreign borrowing so as to fill the gap between imports and exports.

Also the inflation rate was very high and exceeded the average rate of the African countries.

That means manufacturing industry did not support the national economy and did not contribute to reduce these imbalances.
