Abstract EN
This study compared between two special education teacher preparation programs at the University of Wisconsin in Madison, USA and King Saud University in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia.
It showed similarities and differences between the two programs besides the graduation requirements, number of specialized credit hours and their nature, and the duration of field training The researcher used the comparative descriptive approach in order to answer the main study question: Does the special education teacher preparation program at King Saud University differ from the special education teacher preparation program at the University of Wisconsin? The main question branched into the following: What is the difference between graduation requirements and study plan between the two programs? What are the differences and similarities in the number of academic courses? Do the courses of both programs differ? Does the length of field training differ? The researcher studied the documents and websites of both programs.
She also interviewed the faculty members at Wisconsin University The study showed that the special education teacher preparation program at Wisconsin University consists 120 credit hours.
It also requires studying one third of the credit hours at the college of arts and sciences.
The program has one stream with 45 hours in special education to prepare a teacher of any disability.
The field training lasts for 2 semesters The special education teacher preparation program at King Saud University consists 128 credit hours, 113 of which are educational.
The student studies 85 credit hours in special education in 5 streams i.e.
mental disability, learning disabilities, hearing disability, autism, and behavioral disorders.
The field training lasts for one semester
