Abstract EN

The current study aims to identify competencies and skills needed for special education teachers and compare it to those needed by regular teachers.

To achieve this goal the researchers used a questionnaire composed of (31) competencies and skills.

It was applied to the study sample (156) of special education teachers and other teachers in different majors.

Frequencies and percentage were calculated to show differences.

The results showed a significant confirmation that the skills and competencies required for special education teachers and teachers in other majors are broadly similar, with some strategies that may be necessary to specialty more than the other.

More than 70% of the sample believed in the importance of scientific qualification in a scientific major for special education.

Also, on the importance that special education teachers are prepared to work with certain school level.

The study showed that only a low percentage of special education teachers agree with the approach of preparing special education that are taking place in Saudi universities.

This study provides some recommendations about the required qualification for special education teachers and teachers of other majors.

Particularly, the importance of benefiting from the graduates of various scientific disciplines with specialized educational diplomas.
