نمو سكان مدينة عمان 1952-2015 م : دراسة ديموغرافية

Abstract EN

The current study presents a review for the demographic changes that Amman went through during the first and second half of the 20th century and the beginning of the current century.

Such a review is based on the results of the population and housing census which was conducted by the department of statistic in 1952 The results of the current study showed that Amman witnessed a rapid population growth during the first and second half of the previous century.

Most of this rapid growth is attributed to internal and external flows of immigrants, especially the successive waves of Palestinian immigrants which followed the Arab–Israeli war.

It should be noted that expanding the borders of Amman played a major role in the promoting the rapid population growth that Amman went through.

It was noticed that the population growth during that period of time included an increase in the numbers of males and females with having similar growth rate for both genders.

When reviewing the population growth rate during the last century and beginning of the current century, it can be noticed that those population growth rates are characterized with having a rapid growth during the periods under study, except for the interval periods between the censuses of (1979 and 1994) and (1994 – 2004).

This exception can be attributed to the constant reduction in the fertility levels during those periods.

The current study also shows that the period between 2004 -2015 has witnessed an abnormal high population growth rate in Amman due to the flow of Iraqi and Syrian immigrants to Amman
