Abstract EN

The study explores the concept of narrative form, its content, and its tradition-inspired structure in Egyptian novelist Muhammed Jibril's From the Papers of Abi Attaib al- Mutanabbi.It shows the extent to which elements of the narrative discourse namely, setting and language are interwoven.

The study also distinguishes between narrator and novelistas well as between narrative and narratee since the novelist masquerades as a fictional narrator to expresshis political and social vision.

The novelist achieves this expression using the techniques of textual criticism, a genre which extrapolates traditional texts; multiple narratives which the narrator provides and the novelist doubts by referring to missing accounts; text documentation and attribution; and notes and footnotes which serve as an essential narrative unit whose allusions connect directly to the course of the narrative.

Furthermore, the study attempts to explore the position of both novelist and narrator with regard to the narratee in the novel.

It also attempts to explore the justifications for evoking the historical, literary, artistic figure of Al-Mutanabbi, as well as the tools used to portray the character on the realistic as well as the imaginative level so as to bear the burden of communicating the novelist's political and social vision.
