Abstract EN

This study dealt with the problem of water and its implicationsin the Arab World which is located in the arid and semi - arid zones .

The problem lies in the little quantities of rain water which is distributed in specific seasons and varies from a state to another.

In addition, more than 75% of the water resources, represented by the Nile, Euphrates , Tigris and Jordan rivers, are sources outside the borders of the Arab World and under the control of non - Arab countries , The study importance stems from the fact that water isconsidered to be one of the sources of life.

It is also the main threat facing the region and hence becomes a strategic crucial issue in the region strengthened more by its obvious scarcity, The study aimed to recognize the geographical aspect of the problem and explore its different dimensions in addition to study and analyze water resources in the a area and the ways of upgrading them and adding new sources of water.

The study also is intended to suggest some solutions to face the risks associated with this problem in fiiture.

The study followed the analytic approach and revealed some finings topped by the obvious shortage in natural resources of water in the area and that the irrigated areas consumes 88% of water resources in comparison to 6.9% for home usage and 5.1%for industrial sector.

It was also found that evaporation constitutes a very hazardous factor for the surface water resources, particularly in the southern parts of the area.

Also the study revealed that the need for water goes in harmony with the increase in population, a factor that may lead to decreasing the annual share of the individual of water to less than (1000 mD) the minimum limit assigned by the United Nations for the countries poor in water.

The study recommended that the Arab countries should keep their water resources, establishing specialized Arab network for water and establishing a national and regional information centers for collecting, documenting and retrieving data when necessary.

The study also recommended that there is a necessity for conducting more studies to discover more underground water and benefiting from water, resources in generating cheap hydroelectric sources which would be utilized for different purpose
