Jordan is a Mediterranean lower middle income country with limited resources.

As pharmaceutical expenditure is a big challenge, the Joint Procurement Department was established in order to make medicines available for patients throughout the year based on economies of scale while purchasing for all participating parties jointly.

The aim of this study was to evaluate the second stage of applying joint procurement of pharmaceuticals in the public sector in Jordan by comparing quantities purchased on 2007 to 2008, in addition measuring patients' as well as participating parties' satisfaction.

Results showed savings of 4.86% and a comprehensive satisfaction (68%), and a need to modify receiving process and payment procedures.

It was concluded that continuous purchasing pharmaceuticals jointly for public sector in Jordan is promising to improve availability of medicines for patients all over the year
