Abstract EN

The subject of information literacy is one of the most interesting and usual topics of the last ten years in the field of information.

Not only do individuals seem attracted by this subject, but institutions, governments and countries too.

On the social side, this topic considers and deals with the increasing gap between information illiterates and intellectuals.

In this context, our paper attempts to underline the role of libraries, whatever are their types, in disseminating and promoting information literacy within society.

In fact, these institutions assume a key mission in this complex information environment where change is very speedy.

This has led both of information specialists and users to face great challenges consisting essentially in acquiring information literacy.

We arrived at emphasizing the necessity for all libraries to spread and promote information literacy.

This mission is not only one of the ordinary tasks assumed by these institutions, but it is also a message transmitted to society.
