Abstract EN

This study investigates the historical development of the Ibrahamic Tekiyya (charitable establishment/ currently food charity only) in the city of Hebron from its earliest inception in the Fatimid era through the Mamluk and Ottoman periods to the present day, in terms of addressing an important issue, which is the eradication of poverty in the city.

The study includes the emergence of the Tekiyya, following the old tradition by the father of the prophets, Ibrahim al-Khalil (peace be upon him), of feeding the poor and being hospitable towards the guests.

The study also deals with Tekiyya's sources of funding, including donations and allocations by the sultans and rulers.

The study also discusses the conditions that led to the interruption of its services.

It sheds light on its role in feeding the poor, visitors, and residents as well as on the impact of these services on the Palestinian social fabric, which prompted other Palestinian cities to establish similar charities, for the same purpose.
