Abstract EN

This study was conducted to identify the perspectives of Taibah University first-year students vis-à-vis family role in deciding their educational cycle, as well as the challenges hindering the implementation of this role.

The paper used the interpretive-descriptive approach.

A questionnaire was administered to a population sample of 331 first-year male and female students majoring in scientific fields.

Students were selected on a stratified random basis.

With a mean of (3.96), findings revealed a high level of family implication during all stages of their children’s educational cycle.

With a mean of (3.45), organizational and managerial obstacles seem to represent the most important obstacles, followed by personal ones with a mean of (3.01).

However, obstacles related to family support were ranked third with a low mean of (2.15).

Further, results showed statistically significant differences at the level of (0.05) due to gender, favoring the male group in obstacles related to family support as well as organizational and managerial ones.

There were also statistically significant differences at the level of (0.05) between means of scores reported by respondents in the obstacles related to family support according to education level of parents, favoring fathers with primary education and illiterate mothers.
