Faculty members’ role in developing leadership skills among Students of the Hashemite University

Abstract EN

This study was conducted to investigate faculty members’ role in developing leadership skills amongst students of the Hashemite University.

Employing the descriptive approach, the study also attempts to track any statistically significant differences in students’ responses based on certain variables; namely: gender, area of study and academic level of students.

A questionnaire of (33) items grouped into (5) skills (communication, time management, problem solving, decision making and teamwork) was administered to a population sample of (937) students representing (4%) of the study population.

Findings revealed that faculty members' role was high in developing students’ skills of communication, teamwork and decision-making.

However, faculty members seemed to play a moderate role in boosting students’ skills of problem-solving and time management.

Results showed no statistically significant differences which could be attributed to students’ gender and/or area of study.

Nonetheless, academic level has shown statistically significant differences in favor of second-and third-year students.

Considering the central role that leadership skills may have in students’ academic, personal and professional lives, the study recommends fostering and promoting faculty members’ role in this domain.
