Abstract EN

The aim of this research is to study the reality of barely production at Sewida Governorate.

The analysis is based on preliminary data obtained from a questionnaire that included 172 barley farmers, representing 5% of barley farmers at the province level, during the season of 2015.

To achieve the study’s goals, a descriptive and quantitative statistical analysis is used, in addition to using an evaluative financial profitability indicators.

The results reveal that harvesting costs represent the highest rate out of the total cost of production (39.71 %), and there is a significant impact for the stability zone, soil color, agricultural cycle and agriculture style on the production.

Moreover, the positive indication of the net income, profitability of the invested lira, profit margin and Benefit-Cost Ratio indicates the positivity of the profit in such projects at the sample level which is 291.27 sp/dunum, 5.91%, 5.58% and 6.16% respectively.

The decrease of operating ratio below 1 (0.94) and the increase of proportion of revenues to cost over 1 (1.01) reveals the feasibility of such projects but at a very low level.

The study recommends directing the farmer’s attention to the importance of performing soil analysis, designing and circulating a manual for agricultural cycles by stakeholders in accordance with the actual rainfall rate, and implementing agricultural research on field crops in general and barley in specific at Sewida province level and for a number of seasons
