Abstract EN

With a view to identifying the role of coordination in bringing about traffic safety, a 35- item questionnaire was administered to all personnel of Traffic General Directorate, secretariats affiliated to Ministry of Municipal and Rural Affairs as well as traffic safety specialists at Ministry of Transport.

Respondents totaled 120, and the received questionnaires totaled 98 with 82% being the percentage of responses to questionnaire sections.

Key findings of the research are that ' requirements of realizing coordination between executive bodies concerned with traffic safety' one of the Sections of questionnaire, was the first in order of importance with an average of(4.6)followed by 'significance of coordination between executive bodies concerned with traffic safety' with an average of (6.4).

In the fourth place in order of importance was the Section of 'delegation of specific tasks to concerned entities' with an average of (3.6).

Responses have shown 'higher importance' averages on all statements of Sections 2 and 3, and the same was true with one statement in Section 1 and another in Section 4.

Questionnaire responses have also shown ' a difference' within 'workplace' variable between Ministry of Transport and Traffic Dept's staff and Ministry of Municipal and Rural Affairs one.

Responses have also shown no significant statistical difference at the level (0.05) due to different responses within variables such as (age), (experience), (education) and (position).

Key recommendations of the research are: identifying tasks of each executive body; developing policies to enhance coordination between executive bodies and creating an accurate data base for hot spots to curb traffic accidents
