United States Congress has endorsed Patriot Act in the 26th of October 2001 only seven weeks after the September 11 Attacks.

Such attacks had greatly influenced the drafting of Patriot Act as per a legislative policy aimed to reducing protection of private rights and liberties including rights to privacy.

The Patriot Act of 2001 provides for further powers, under Criminal Procedures Law, with respect to seizure, search, arrest, communications surveillance and spying on members of the public.

However this law was widely criticized both internally and externally as it reflects USA's drawback in protecting private rights and liberties.

The study encompasses two sections: the first is titled: evolution and development of right to privacy in American Law, whereas the second: Patriot Act 2001 expands combatting powers and reduces protection of right to privacy after the September 11 Attacks.

This section has three subsections, the first of which is titled: September 11 Attacks: nature and magnitude of loss and damage, while the second is titled: Legislative history of Patriot Act 2001.

The third is titled: Boosting surveillance procedures under the second chapter of Patriot Act.

Study sums up with 15 findings and 5 recommendations
