Abstract EN

The study falls within the population-environmental studies that address the problem of the characteristics of rural human resources and the possibility of investing them optimally in order to bring about social, economic and demographic changes in the countryside by establishing and activating appropriate development programs with the natural and human geographical indications of the region.

Human resources development is demographically and ideologically (intellectually) economically and socially, and must begin with the countryside and its population to reach a comprehensive regional development.

The study targeted the population of rural areas in the governorates of Kurdistan Region of Iraq (Erbil, Dohuk, Sulaymaniyah), which is one of the regions that have natural geographical characteristics and human resources can develop human resources and promised an experiment to circulate its results to the rest of the provinces of Iraq.

The study relied on the results of the census and numbering carried out in the framework of the general census of population and housing for 2009, being the most accurate data obtained, including population statistics on households, housing and establishments.

The Central Bureau of Statistics estimates for 2016 were also adopted as the latest available estimates.
