Abstract EN

The aim of the present research was to demonstrate different motives of chat room use(Facebook), and its role in bringing about change in Algerian society, and gratifications obtained from that use, the current study intends also to gain insight in the possible effects and implications in individual’s life and the whole society, data were collected by questionnaires, only chat room users were selected and given a questionnaire to fill out, the main findings of the study were the following: young people of this age (19-28) are the first and the greatest users of chat room.

Electronic chat caused several changes in person’s life.

Electronic chat forms risks and negative effects in the behaviour of adolescents and young people.

Addiction to electronic chat caused depressive symptoms, social isolation, and decreased users interest in events occurred in their environment.

There is an important number of persons which use chat room for cultural purposes (to seek information, to learn foreign languages…).
