Social movements are regarded as important factors that can largely impact the democratization process Social movements play such influential roles in promoting democracy.

However, they normally confront several challenges in many developing countries, such as political despotism, undemocratic political culture, foreign fund, and the weak and ineffective structure of many social movements.
