Abstract EN

Determining the amount of radiation dose received in Radiotherapy for cancer patients, in general, is very useful for predicting the fate of their disease and the safe dose limit must be exposed.

We observed an increase in the percentage of NKT cells in cancer pelvic patients, compared with the healthy controls, by a statistically significant difference (P= 0.002), and it decreased after patients were subjected to radiotherapy sessions with statistical significance (P= 0.014).

This study was carried out on 40 participants, contained 20 pelvic cancer patients and 20 healthy controls, based on using of NKT cells Flow Cytometric Assay, with considering of some confusion factors such as, smoking habit, and the difference in age, sex and the family illness history.

Our results proved the relation between the effect of radiation exposure and percentage of NK T Cells that expressed by CD3+CD56+%, which indicate that NKT can be used as a possible biological indicator of the radiation dose absorbed by Syrian pelvic cancer patients.
