Abstract EN

Breast cancer is a major public health problem around the world.

It results from genetic and environmental factors, leading to the accumulation of mutations in essential genes.

The human epidermal growth factor receptor 2 (Her2) plays an important role in the development of this neoplasm, and genetic alterations in this gene, such as point mutations and polymorphisms have been detected in breast cancer patients.

This study aimed to investigate association between Her2 polymorphism and the genetic susceptibility to breast cancer in Syrian women.

The study included 100 women,70 of them suffer from breast cancer, while 30 of them were healthy.

Both groups were genotyped for single nucleotide polymorphism by polymerase chain reaction, and restriction fragment length polymorphism analysis by using BsmAI enzyme.

The frequencies of AA,AG and GG genotypes (BsmAI polymorphism) in patients were 70%, 25.7% and 4.3% respectively.

While, in control groups their frequency was 80%, 20% and 0%,respectively.

This difference in distribution between patients and controls wasn`t statistically significant (P > 0.05).

Our study showed that there was not an association between Her2 genotype and breast cancer risk.
