Abstract EN

Many countries have embarked on several initiates related to Quality and Excellence where they established national quality and excellence awards following steps of Japan, USA and Europe.

Some governments in the Arab region have had successful initiatives such as Egypt, Saudi Arabia, Jordan, Bahrain and the UAE.

This study will shed light on the importance of national quality awards and their role in economic development.

The study basically attempts to answer two key questions, i.e.

1) is there feasibility from investing in quality and excellence national awards? 2) If the national awards are feasible, how can they benefit the national economy in private and public sector? The study is based on case studies and metadata analysis from literature, in addition, it is informed by hands experience of the author as senior assessor, chief examiner and juror in nine national and regional quality awards.

It is hoped that this study contribute to further understanding of the strategic role of Quality and Excellence Award on the national level
