The research aims to estimating the virtual water in the production and consumption of the livestock sector, and the relative importance of the components of the blue virtual water (irrigation water).

It is clear that the sector's imports decreased from 39% in 2009 to 27% in 2013.

This is explained by the increase in domestic production of these commodities, which is confirmed by the increase in the needs of local production of virtual water.

The required quantity increased from 1.1 to 1.4 billion M3 during the study period.

It was also noted that the Kingdom's exports of livestock products decreased from 63% in 2009 to 42% in 2013.

Exports virtual water has decreased from 705 million cubic meters to 622 million cubic meters during the study period.

The results indicate that dairy products ranked first in the average blue water required for local production, by 1134 million m3/year, of which 600 million m3/year were exported abroad, and the total average consumption of dairy products was 687 million m3/year as blue water, 153 Million m3/year as imports of dairy products during the period of study, followed by production of poultry meat and eggs, then beef, and goats and goats, with virtual water of 93, 84 and 72 million cubic meters, respectively.

This study recommends reduction of dairy product exports, which consume high ratio of blue virtual water.

In addition, fish consumption is recommended to be increased and red meat consumption to be decreased.
