Abstract EN

The study aims to investigate the relationship between family violence as perceived by Riyadh intermediate stage students and academic adjustment.

It seeks to explore the differences between family violence and academic adjustment (overall score and sub-scale scores) among students which can be attributed to the academic year variable and parents’ educational level.

To that end, the researcher adopted the random stratified method in selecting the participants of the study (n 1535).

The researcher employed the Scale of Family Violence (Al-Osami, 2012), and the Scale of Academic Adjustment (Al-Luhain, 1997).

The results of the study revealed that there is a statistically significant negative relationship 0.01 and below between the scores of the sample on the family violence scale (overall score and sub-scale scores) and the average of their scores on the scale of academic adjustment (overall score and sub-scale scores).

The study recommends designing training programs to help violent fathers and mothers control their anger and their bouts of violence, and to clarify the sound non-violent techniques that can boost the academic adjustment of their children.
