The present paper accounts for the word order and contextual meaning in Surat Al-Baqarah (Q1).

This study is related to Qur'anic coherence studies and contributes to the notion of inimitability of Qur'anic discourse.

The study is divided into three parts: Part one deals with the perceptions of the unbelievers and hypocrites in Q1.

Part two deals with the semantic images that describe the unbelievers and hypocrites in Q1.

Part three deals with the impact of these images.

The study provides useful findings such as the purpose of the semantic images and their contexts, the relatedness between an image and the previous one, and the fact that images are complementary to each other semantically.
