Abstract EN

This article explores the role played by the Orientalists in excluding Standard Arabic from cultural, intellectual, scientific and literary life.

The Orientalists appealed to using dialects instead of the standard language especially in the literary field.

They went as far to argue that Standard Arabic is difficult, rigid and inappropriate to cope to development in the Arab world.

This affected Arab intellectuals and literary figures.

Thus, proponents to the appeal emerged and dialects appeared in many literary works.

However, the appeal's dangerous goals were not achieved given that it targets the history of the Arab nation, its heritage and its spiritual and religious values, and serves the western colonization in dominance and extension.
