Abstract EN

In his novel "Flies and Emerald" , Abdul-Karim Alubaidi explores the Iraqi society in Basra during the final nineteenths of the last century.

The novelist tries to uncover the nature of conflict that had caused death and degradation in all levels of Iraqi life, socially, economically, or ideologically.

The present paper discusses the basic constructions of Abdul-Karim Alubaidi's "Flies and Emerald" in terms of Lucian Goldman's The Genetic Structural Theory.

The researcher introduces the main concepts of the theory in the introduction as a base to understand and explain the novel.

Then, four sections are introduced.

The first section deals with the social understructures in the novel.

The narrative components of the novel are exposed to in the second section.

Section three explores the narrative contrasts in the novel.

Finally, the researcher discusses the narrative perspectives .

The conclusion of the present paper states that the main construction of the novel and the general degradation of its characters greatly correspond with the whole degradation of the understructures in the Iraqi world, filled with hope to what could be possible in the novelist's vision.
