Abstract EN

The unity of the old Arabic poem’s case brought different opinions among modern Arabic critics.

There are three categories: some denied absolutely, the others affirm it entirely and there is a category that reconciles the two others, the latter one sees that the old poem has components that take away dissociation without giving it total unity characteristics.

Perhaps, the reason behind these opinions’ difference is the outcome of the contrast of critical backgrounds.

The former group resorts to the notion of unity as it can be seen in western criticism, while the latter argues that the Arabic poem entity is different from that of western poem upon which the advocate of the poem unit based their theory.

It will be, therefore, unfair to project western critical concept entirely to the construction of the old Arabic poem
