Abstract EN

Cognitive metaphor is one of the linguistic methods for expressing a specific concept through other concepts; Most of the times, when we use abstract concepts for understanding and introducing specific concept we need similes, allegories, metaphors and imagery therefore the desired meaning gets tangible for understanding.

Using these methods in new linguistics is defined as conceptual or cognitive metaphor.

For introducing or referring to an abstract subject as a metaphor's destination, tangible, objective or substantive concepts are used as origin concepts and transferring the concept from origin to destination is called mapping so that the origin concept goes beyond its verbal meaning, includes a new concept and gives it its meaning.

Nahj-al-Balageh, as one of the most important sources of Amir-al-Muminin's words, is full of cognitive metaphors.

This study, by applying descriptive analytical method, investigates cognitive metaphors that are related to speech of the world and the hereafter and analyses conceptual areas of journey and home for discoursing on the world and the hereafter (as concept of destination).

Imam Ali (upon him prayer and peace) has introduced the world and the hereafter by using concepts related to journey's concept and expressions of allegory and simile, also he has forbidden human to be deceived by the world and encouraged to turn to the hereafter.
