Abstract EN

Since antiquity women took part in economic, cultural, and social life.

However, in the Islamic era this matter reoccurred raising more controversy about the legitimacy of women’s involvement in labor.

Unlike Arab societies’ customs and traditions, Islam liberated women from the shakles they endured during the Pre- Islamic period.

Islam then further endorsed their setting-off to work when necessary.

Furthermore , modern economic, social, and political circumstances even made women defy the customs of both their maternal and marital roles in order to meet up with community’s requirements inside the house and out.

Recent studies focused on the effects (remnants) of this new role they assume with conflicting views which, either inflicts more suffrage upon women or attempts to aid their crucial role on both social and economical development, whereas working housewives contribution to the family’s income has placed them with an unprecedent set of familial decisions.

Accordingly, this study aims at identifying: first, the extent to which laboring housewives partake in the domestic income.

Second, distinguishing their occupation’s economic impact, from an Islamic point of view, on their part as decision-makers within family, and finally what domains they are permitted to be engaged in.
