Abstract EN

This study aimed to reveal the general characteristics of battered women in the Algerian society and know the nature of the violence and the identity of the abuser, using for this the data of the Algerian network centers which listen to women victims of violence in the year 2013.

Two approaches have been employed in this study, the descriptive analytical method because it is characterized by a highly detailed description of the information and helps the comprehensive and in-depth analysis of the problem at hand, and the statistical approach for dealing with the proportions, rates and numbers.

It was found through this study that the violence against women is a comprehensive phenomenon touched all women according to their age, their social culture, and their situation economic,which takes multiple forms and in particular psychological and physical violence, they are fatal distorting physically, psychologically, sexually and economicallyscourge.

As it was noticed that the husband is the abuser in most cases and that most of the attacks took place in the family of any space in the house of the victim, whether marital or familial.
