Abstract EN

The purpose of this thesis is to explain the impact of the belief in Imamate by the Ismai'iliyyah on esoteric interpretation, and how this interpretation is related to the apparent meaning of the Qur'an.

The study is made through an applied procedure on the book "Asas al-Ta'wil" by the chief judge of the Fatimid Caliphate Al - Nʾuman Ibn Hayyun AlTamimi Al – Maghrbi (died.

363 H.), because it's the most important source of Ismaʾili thought until today.

The nature of the study required that the method is inductive and critical.

The thesis contained an introduction about the book and its author and two chapters.

The first chapter is about the principle of Imamate and its relation to prophecy, and the second chapter is about the importance of esoteric interpretation and the role of imam in it, and esoteric attitude to the apparent meaning.

I ended the study with a summary where I mentioned the most important results, from them is that the Isma'iliyyah believes that you cannot have faith if you only accept the apparent meaning of the texts without knowing the esoteric interpretation.

They also believe that their imams are the only ones that knows the esoteric meaning and Allah supports them until the Qa'im will come on the Day of Judgement, and he is Sahib ul-Zaman.
