Abstract EN

The foundation and development of textual criticism had a big impact on the text of the New Testament.

The results of this critical study of the Gospel according to Matthew discloses that an underlying text was severely re-edited in a chaotic way, with theological and polemical intent, and that the resulting edition was afterwards recombined with the underlying text to produce the Gospel as it exists today.

The underlying text was itself the product of earlier processes which that involved many series of major additions.
