Abstract EN

This research aimed at showing the possibility of analyzing poetic texts in a collection of modern poetical works in terms of the theory of semantic fields and at studying the semantic role of theory in conveying linguistic messages to the reader and its relation to order semantic theories such as contextualization and stylistics .

The research also aimed at demonstrating the effective role of this theory among other modern semantic theories and at shedding light on its relation to the remaining heritage of language studies .

The researcher following the descriptive method based on observation and induction in studying the collection of modern poetry .

The researcher has arrived at some conclusions , the most important of which are the following : The field of remotenessand – travel is the one used most commonly in the book , and the words included in this field frequently occur in most of the poems .

Moreover , the word of this field which is used most frequently in the poems of the collection is tribal , an exact expression of the idea of 'travel' .

The researcher has also observed that four words in the semantic field of 'remoteness – and – travel' occur in one and the same poem , and that the words of this field which occur least frequently in the poems of the book are tanaai , sai and gbadar .
