Abstract EN

This study aimed at showing the relation between the content and titles of texts through studying the titles of some Sudanese novels and their esthetic aspects, taking into account the growing interest shown by modern critical research in studying text thresholds and titles.

The titles represents an approach to the literary works and the first moment of communication between the text and its reader.

The study has adopted a descriptive method based on induction and the observation of the titles some novels.

The research comprises an introduction, three chapters and a conclusion.

The introduction tackles textlinguistics and its related domains, including the study of titles.

Chapter one is concerned with the types and titles of Sudanese novelse; Chapter two tackles the function of titles, whereas Chapter three covers the types of connection between titles and content.

The research has reached the conclusion that Sudanese novels use all types and functions of titles and have, thus, been able to cope with the development in formulating the title of the modern Arabic novel, and that most titles of Sudanese novels are short and have direct specifying function
