Abstract EN

This research is concerned with the study of the lexical items used to refer to utensils in the travels of Ibn Battuta, as the study of lexical meaning is considered one of the most important aspects in the evolution of language.

Language is constantly changing and evolving with time, as life evolves and changes.

Thus, language is a social phenomenon.

The travels are an endless source for researchers in this area, combining the geographical, cultural and linguistic dimensions of the peoples visited by the traveler.

This research deals with some selected linguistic aspects in the travels of Ibn Battuta, namely the study of the words for utensils, followed by a classification of those words in terms of types, and listed in alphabetical order.

Finally, this research work ends with a conclusion in which the most important findings are stated, together with the suggestion to expand the discussion to include the study of Turkish, Persian and Indian words contained in the travels, and their impact on the contexts of the travels.

A further suggestion is that linguists interested in these languages investigate the use of these words in their assigned context and the extent to which they are used as such in contemporary language.
