Abstract EN
The study aimed to identify the problems related to the negative use of social networking sites among secondary school students in Khartoum State.The study used the descriptive approach.
The sample of the study included second grade students in the academic year 2015-2016.
The sample of the study was 2180 (979 male students and 1201 female students) from 43543 students.
This randomly selected, a questionnaire used as a tool for data collection.
The data analyzed by descriptive statistics.
The results showed that male students more used and addicted to social networking sites, than female students.
Male students use social networking sites for non-educational purposes more than female students.
Female students use social networking sites at home more than male students do.
Male students prefer to use the social media night and day compared to female students.
Male students exposed to problems of usage (sleeping problem, lying, preference for Western family culture, negative impact on values and behaviors) compaired to female students.
Problems of use, among student’s families (rebellion against parental authority, weakness in family relations and failure to fulfill family duties) were more among male than female.
The study recommended the importance of monitoring students and identifying friends who deal with them, organizing intensive awareness seminars for both parents and students to identify the negative effects of using social networking sites.
Preparing and supervising programs for the Internet.
Trying to fill the student's leisure time to benefit and involve them through artistic activities, sports and recreational methods.
