The Seljuk paid great attention towards strengthening the military fortifications, especially in the coastal cities.

This is mainly attributed to the geographical location adjacent to the Byzantine and Romanian Empires and to grip the coastal areas to enable carrying out successful military campaigns against the Byzantine Empire.

We noticed great keenness to establish, or rehabilitate the castles and fortresses with the territory of their great empire.

These buildings bore unique characteristics represented by the diversified defensive elements that have been introduced / used therein
