The study aimed to trace the historical stages of the curriculum in Somalia from the colonial period to the period of study 2016.The researcher used in descriptive method as well as an interview; primary and secondary sources, moreover, personal experience as tools in data collection and analysis.
The study found out that procedures are used in the curriculum development in Somalia –specially after collapsing the central government in 1991 – were not according to steps of the curriculum planning, but it was compined topics from the textbooks of other countries in a way (Cut and Paste) and edited so as not to contradict the culture of the society.
Furthermore, the study showed that the period of military government was considered as educational renaissance of Somalia.
The researcher recommended the need for clear educational policy which is consistent with the culture of Somali society in the framework of political, economic and social developments besides studying and analyzing the reality of the Somali society politically, socially and economically in terms of the problems and aspirations through the participation of all segments of society to be a national partnership that basis on developing the curriculum.
The researcher also recommended the need to government support to private education system which rose and got up after the falling down of Somali central government to be considered an integral part of public education.
