Abstract EN

The paper highlights the role of the Arab Fund for Economic and Social Development in support of the Somali economy in the period between 1974- 2014.

The paper aims to underline the extent of Arab support for Somalia, and to evaluate, find out the obstacles that have prevented Somalia to benefit Arab economic aid.

The significance of this topic is that Somalia as a member of Arab league countries, and the commitment of Arab league with the support of Member States, economically, so as Somalia from the least developed countries among the Arab countries, making it in dire need of economic support.

The researcher hopes that this study will be a part of interested studies for the economy of Somalia at this stage that Somalia is seeking economic reform and rebuilding state.

The researcher used in this paper descriptive method and available resources as a data collection from Arab Fund for Economic and Social Development and international organizations, especially the World Bank and International Monetary Fund.

The researcher, through analysis of the data, found out that Somalia did not gain sufficient economic support due to different factors, some due to Somalia and some others to Arab countries in addition to regional and international conditions.

The researcher recommends: the need to resume the Arab economic institutions activities in Somalia, the focus at this stage on the Arab investment and support to the private sector, as well as technical assistance to the Somali government to rebuild its institutions.
